New IP Transit-Enhancing Cloud Solution for Enterprise Data Storage and Backup Debuts

July 27, 2010

NTT (News - Alert) America, a wholly owned U.S. subsidiary of NTT Communications Corporation, announced a new IP transit-enhancing cloud storage solution that offers enterprise-class security, high-availability and control to enhance the company’s local public cloud suite announced recently.

The new solution, Cloud Files, enables enterprises to “move storage from a capital expense to an operational expense, giving greater flexibility in planning and allocation of capital.” It eliminates the capital investment and resources associated with content storage, the purchase of storage area network (SAN) and network attached storage (NAS) systems, and the management of backup and archival information.

The cloud solution offers enterprises cost-effective "pay as you go" subscription models and has features such as SAS (News - Alert) 70 Type II audit, in-flight and at-rest encryption and 24x7 customer support by engineers -- which offers maximum security to enterprise data.

The service is immediately available for the U.S. enterprise customers of all sizes, company officials said. The service can be used on a stand-alone basis or as a shared storage resource as part of the NTT America (News - Alert) Cloud services.

In effect, Cloud Files enables organizations to eliminate duplication of data and additional hardware and simplifying storage management.

“With Cloud Files we are providing customers with flexibility never seen before in the storage arena,” Doug McMaster, vice president of products and solutions, NTT America, said.

“Whether it's something simple such as sharing images across websites, or more complex, such as part of a comprehensive disaster recovery strategy, Cloud Files gives customers an unprecedented capability to simplify their storage processes and focus internal IT resources on business critical issues.”

Cloud Files features a full suite of management controls to give customers more flexibility in managing ongoing storage requirements, NTT America officials said.

System administrators can set usage quotas with role-based permissions, allowing appropriate storage based on department requirements.

With this solution, companies can also create unlimited storage accounts, which are clearly defined with account names and descriptions, making it easy to manage files and grow storage in line with their business requirements.

Cloud Files also allows IT departments to save on disaster recovery costs and planning since storing data in the cloud requires no remote physical storage locations and the data is protected from any local disaster scenarios.

NTT Communications (News - Alert) has announced its plans to open premium data centers in Vietnam and Singapore. As part of this expansion, the company also announced the launch of a new inter-data center connectivity service that enables enterprise customers to quickly establish seamless connectivity between core data centers.
