Columbus Acquires Telecorp, Expands IP Transit Business to Honduras
Columbus International, a Barbados-based communications provider, has completed the acquisition of Telefonica (News
- Alert) Corporativa (Telecorp).
The acquisition expands Columbus Business Solutions brand to Honduras and positions Columbus Honduras as a complete provider of advanced IT and telecommunications integrated solutions in the region.
Columbus International operates in Trinidad, Jamaica, Grenada and Curacao and provides digital cable television, broadband Internet, digital landline telephony in Trinidad, Jamaica, Barbados, Grenada and Curacao under the brand name, FLOW and corporate data and cloud based services under the brand Columbus Business Solutions.
Columbus Business Solutions (CBS) provides connectivity and cloud based services to the corporate marketplace. The service portfolio includes connectivity and broadband access such as national and international data services (MPLS, Ethernet TDM, IP transit), along with colocation and data center services.
The cloud-based services portfolio includes business continuity, infrastructure, security and desktop solutions.
"Telecorp's dedicated staff of 54 telecom professionals has done an excellent job in delivering data, telephony and unified communications solutions to the Honduras business market and we look forward to building upon their success,” said Paul Scott, president and COO of Columbus Networks.
"These are two reliable and competent providers of telecommunications and integrated IT solutions,” said Guillermo Bueso, CEO of Banco Atlantida Group. “The combination will allow Columbus to further expand its services in the Honduras business sector by leveraging the unique talent and assets of Telecorp."
The acquisition will help Telecorp customers connect directly through Columbus Networks international subsea network, providing multiple backbone routes and instant scalability for end-to-end services from Honduras to any other destination in the world.
Earlier in September Columbus International announced that it officially acquired formal approval to enter the Barbados telecommunications market. The approval includes the acquisition of TeleBarbados (News - Alert) and all requisite licenses to provide wholesale and retail broadband-enabled services for both businesses and consumers.
