IP transit channel feature
IXcellerate, Cirex and MSK-IX Partnership for Peering on MSK-IX Reduces IP Transit Costs
IXcellerate, Cirex and the Moscow Internet Exchange (MSK-IX) have jointly announced direct access to peering on MSK-IX, the neutral and independent Internet exchange point in Moscow. Peering at Internet exchanges allows carriers and providers, Internet businesses and financial organizations to directly connect their Internet infrastructure through a distributed, fast and cost-effective Ethernet fabric to reduce IP-transit costs and to improve network connectivity and resilience.
Peering is the exchange between two independent networks to benefit the customers of each network. Peering typically happens without the exchange of money, making it a low cost alternative to third-party networks. Benefits of peering include cost, latency and redundancy. Internet transit is different from peering, in which only traffic between the two Internet service providers (ISPs) and their downstream customers is exchanged and neither ISP can see upstream routes over the peering connection.
More than 300 ISPs and Internet-related companies use our services in Moscow and almost 200 in the regions of Russia to enhance their routing efficiency and to save on transit costs. The distributed switching infrastructure of MSK-IX in Moscow as such interconnects 11 telecom facilities in the city. MSK-IX is a strategic exchange point for Internet traffic in Russia, providing public and private peering, colocation and interconnection management services in Moscow and a number of big cities across Russia from St Petersburg throughout Vladivostok.
MSK-IX’s route-server service will provide IXcellerate's customers with free access to multiple networks immediately without the need to negotiate agreements with each of them individually.
Guy Willner, CEO of IXcellerate said in a statement, “We aim to make IXcellerate the most well-connected data center in Moscow and having direct access to the Moscow Internet Exchange is part of that strategy. We are pleased to see Cirex working to provide customers low latency direct access.”
IXcellerate is a data center provider in Moscow and a member of the International Data Centre Group, the first global alliance of carrier-neutral data center providers. By bringing together members from around the world, IDC (News - Alert)-G offers the benefits of the international reach of an organization that is able to serve your complex data center expansion strategies on a global level, combined with the local market expertise that only local operators can deliver.
“The opportunity to connect to MSK-IX directly at IXcellerate facility will boost interconnectivity options for companies collocating their IT and telecom infrastructure,” stated Elena Voronina, CEO at MSK-IX. “In partnership with Cirex we extend our network reach throughout new Moscow DC facilities and enrich them with wide choice of carriers and providers residing mostly at the M-9 facility, at present.”
Cirex provides communication channels, full-view Internet and dark fibers for rental or for sale. It is also a last-mile carrier in Moscow. Partnering with MSK-IX, Cirex will provide fiber channels from IXcellerate's data center to MSK-IX and offer peering connectivity directly from IXcellerate on the Moscow Internet Exchange.
“This is not the first time Cirex partners with either IXcellerate or MSK-IX. It is Cirex’s pleasure to work jointly with both companies. IXcellerate’s customers will be able to access MSK-IX within 1-2 weeks either via 1 Gbit/s or 10 Gbit/s channel,” said Alexander Vakhtin, MD of Cirex.
