TeliSonera International Carrier Supplies Caucasus Online with IP Transit Connectivity

October 19, 2012

IP transit gives you high-speed access to the global Internet. It’s essentially a connectivity service that delivers IP traffic between your servers and the rest of the Internet. IP transit may be up to 50 percent less expensive than building your own international IP network and peering with others, and many Internet service providers (ISPs) are turning to IP transit as a way of providing end users with international Internet connectivity.

TeliaSonera (News - Alert) International Carrier (TSIC), a provider of network access and telecommunication services, will supply Caucasus Online with high-quality IP transit connectivity based on its global IP network, enabling Caucasus Online to power its users with scalable, global reach at the speed of fiber.

TeliaSonera International Carrier operates a dual-stack IPv4 and IPv6 Tier-1 Global IP Backbone that spans Europe, North America and Asia with a single autonomous system number (AS1299) and is supported by 24/7 network operations and customer service facilities located in Sweden.

Its wholly-owned IP backbone features hardware supplied by Juniper and Cisco (News - Alert), one single global AS number, traffic on 10 independent cables across the Atlantic for high quality and it operates nx10G between standard nodes and nx10G or 40G links between core nodes.

“Our commitment to provide our clients with the reach, scale and reliability they deserve is unwavering,” said Erik Hallberg, president, TeliaSonera International Carrier, in a statement. “With this new IP transit service agreement with Caucasus Online, we will power it’s users with a world class IP transit service.”

Caucasus Online offers a full range of ISP services and connectivity across Georgia. Its customers will benefit from direct high-speed access to the content, gaming and social communities most demanded by its Internet customers.

Levan Khundadze, general director, Caucasus Online, adds, “As a capacity and Internet provider, TeliaSonera International Carrier plays an important role in the whole Caucasus region. We consider them a hugely significant partner, with high potential for growth.”
