Better Linux Releases Software Suite of Linux Enhancements

Better Linux Inc arose from many years of enhancing Linux-based Web hosting servers, during which time its kernel developers achieved unrivaled Linux-server optimization. It recently announced the release of BetterLinux, a suite of technologies that gives hosting providers, data centers, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS (News - Alert)) and cloud environments total system control at the level of individual users and processes.

The suite offers the most specific user-level control to date over CPU, memory, I/O bandwidth and IP bandwidth, and its controls are dynamic. If resources dedicated to one user or process go unused, these resources are intelligently reassigned to other users and processes.

BetterLinux is a fully-supported, distribution neutral service that provides support for custom Linux kernel builds. The modules responsible for the notable observed increases in server profitability, user density, stability and efficiency are a mix of new versions of the envied technology first used on Bluehost.com’s platform, where Matt Heaton, founder and CEO of Better Linux, was also once founder and CEO.

Features of the modules include “Better CPU,” a highly customizable monitoring and control system for CPU and memory resources; “Better IO,” which prioritizes I/O requests and smoothes out the I/O scheduler’s workload with customized individual and group I/O limits for users, programs, devices and mount points; “Better Bandwidth,” which links outgoing bandwidth to specific Linux users; and “Better MySQL,” which maps MySQL users and their queries to specific Linux users for accurate, individualized throttling of individual users, processes and threads.
