IPv6 is the next-generation IP address standard intended to supplement and eventually replace the IPv4 protocol most Internet services use to interact on the Internet today. The new system is necessary to prevent the Internet from running out of available addresses for new devices. Each Internet-enabled device, such as a computer, tablet, or smartphone, needs its own IP address to connect to the Internet.

Still, a lot of networking devices are lacking IPv6 support.

IPv4 is predicted to run in tandem with IPv6 for several years. So even if a client device does not explicitly have support for IPv6, if your ISP and your networking devices, such as a router, support the IPv6 protocol, those client devices should have no problem accessing the Internet.

The benefit of this is that it will allow your network clients to access websites that are IPv4 and IPv6 enabled. A disadvantage is that you have little control over IPv6 traffic, meaning you can’t create content filtering or access rules to manage IPv6 traffic.
