Carrier Grade IP Transit Provider Vocus Acquires Maxnet

Vocus Communications, telecommunications provider of data center, dark fiber and international Internet connectivity for Internet Service Providers (ISPs), announced the acquisition of Maxnet, a New Zealand based data center operator and cloud provider. Vocus offers a variety of products including Vocus Colocation, Vocus DSL, Vocus IP Transit and Vocus Voice.

“The Maxnet acquisition complements Vocus’ strong IP Transit operations in New Zealand,” said James Spenceley, CEO of Vocus.  “It not only provides Vocus with one of New Zealand’s leading Data Centres but also one of the most established providers of Cloud Services, marking Vocus’ next step into the high growth Cloud market.”

The Maxnet operation is expected to generate approximately $1.53 million in earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) in FY13. The total consideration for the acquisition is $7.25 million, which includes a deferred consideration based on performance. The acquisition will be funded with bank debt.

As a full service ISP and data center operator, Maxnet offers a range of Internet and network services, hosting solutions for data centers and virtual private servers, and other managed services such as backup, security and application delivery.
