First Global Tier 1 IP Gateway in Brunei Deployed

May 21, 2012

BRUNEI International Gateway Sdn Bhd (BIG) and Japan’s NTT Communications (News - Alert) Corporation (NTT Com) entered into a business collaboration agreement yesterday to deploy the first global Tier 1 IP Gateway in Brunei, which will enhance the Internet access environment in the country and the surrounding areas with less latency and more stability.

Signed yesterday between BIG’s General Manager Pg Hj Mohd Salleh Pg Hj Aji and Ryuichi Hara, member of NTT Com’s board of directors and senior vice president of network services, the agreement is predicted to pave the way for the expansion of NTT Com’s Point of Presence (POP) in Brunei. BIG and NTT Com could look forward to a more cost-efficient approach in delivering their specialized services to their customers through sharing key network infrastructures.

The agreement also presents an opportunity for NTT Com to expand its Global IP Network into Brunei using BIG’s submarine cable capacity.

"IP Service is the main service to be offered through this network and IP transit is the core ingredient and connection to the Internet," said Pg Hj Mohd Salleh. “NTT Com is Asia's number one Tier 1 Transit provider which could guarantee the delivery of IP traffic to and from practically every Internet location in the world.”

Local ISPs currently connect separately to global ISPs outside the country, going all the way to Hong Kong, Singapore and the U.S. to secure IP Transit from Tier 1 and Tier 2 IP Transit providers located there. With the agreement, BIG will be hosting NTT’s Global IP Gateway (News - Alert) routers inside Brunei. Local ISPS will be able to benefit from a more stable IP Transit service in Brunei that is protected by multiple cable systems, and be less prone to disruption in submarine cable faults, as well as enjoy lower yearly recurring costs.

With data now available anywhere in the world, it can be accessed with the help of any type of device that connects to a network. This provides new opportunities for network providers and equipment manufacturers to connect with their customers. DN2k, a provider of M2M software-as-a-service (SaaS (News - Alert)) solution, recently announced its Big Data service integration. The DN2K DWorks technology allows customers to see numerous sensors, devices, and platforms in near real-time. It uses its Big Data Intelligence to sort gigabytes of data and shows only what the customer needs to know, helping them make real-time decisions.
