Level 3 Establishes an IP Node in Djibouti

Level 3 Communications (News - Alert) has established an IP node in Djibouti by signing a contract with Djibouti Telecom.

Djibouti Telecom is an established telecommunications company in Djibouti, East Africa, and is helping Level 3 to set up first point-of-presence in Africa. This alliance will enable Level 3 to provide IP services to Djibouti Telecom's wholesale and enterprise customers across the region. Services will commence in the third quarter of 2012, according to a release.

Level 3 offers high-speed IP solution and Djibouti Telecom boasts regional expertise in providing Internet services. A combination of these two will deliver an enhanced service experience at an affordable price to customers.

“Working with Level 3 will enable us to position ourselves in Eastern and Southern Africa, in the IP business. In five years' time, we want to leverage our privileged geographical position as the East African countries gateway to the rest of the world,” said Abdourahman Mohamed Hassan, general manager of Djibouti Telecom.

In addition to enabling Djibouti Telecom to offer IP services, Level 3 is also able to localize online content in region. Level 3 is thus able to more efficiently serve its global customers.

Level 3 Communications was in news earlier this month for signing an agreement with Grupo Elektra to help strengthen and improve the security, reliability and efficiency of Grupo Elektra's communications.
