Giglinx Expands IP Transit Connectivity for QTS
As the third largest data provider in the U.S., QTS (Quality Technology Services (News - Alert)) always has an eye out for new connectivity options in the company’s carrier-neutral data centers. QTS, a provider of data center solutions and fully managed services for enterprise businesses, recently added Giglinx as a new carrier option in Santa Clara, CA.
QTS (News - Alert) boasts a complete portfolio of core data center services, and with 12 locations in seven states, operates 3.1 million square feet of secure data center infrastructure. QTS supports more than 700 customers making the company prominent in the world of colocation and IT infrastructure, so it is only natural that Giglinx would target the Kansas City-based provider.
As a provider of wholesale connectivity and colocation services, Giglinx had already been working with QTS, acting as a sales agent for the company’s colocation services. This newly-expanded partnership makes sense for the two organizations. Giglinx has an opportunity to expand its customer base by offering services to QTS’ growing customer base. QTS welcomes additional connectivity options for customers in Silicon Valley, where the company opened a second data center on its Santa Clara campus last year.
“We’re pleased have Giglinx as a new provider available within our data centers on the QTS Santa Clara campus,” said Brian Johnston, chief technology officer, QTS. “Adding Giglinx to our carrier neutral facilities in Silicon Valley presents our customers with another option for their connectivity needs.”
The integration of Giglinx’s solution is already in place for QTS via backhauled Level 3 transit into the Santa Clara facility. For Giglinx, this expanding partnership opens up QTS’ current and future customer base to Giglinx in Santa Clara, according to Marcus Mamolen, president of Giglinx.
“Giglinx is very pleased to join forces with QTS by bringing additional connectivity into their state-of-the-art Santa Clara data centers," said Mamolen. “QTS is the third largest data center provider in the US, and their customers have significant connectivity needs that need to be delivered in a timely manner and at competitive rates. These are services that fall directly into Giglinx’s core competencies. We hope this partnership in Santa Clara will be a springboard to more collaboration in the other major markets where QTS operates.”
Of course, as with any new implementation, challenges arise. Particularly, Giglinx had to overcome the hurdle of finding a Layer 2 transport solution that worked within its budget. Mamolen noted that Giglinx had to “jump in and make a calculated risk the future business would be there” considering that there was only one pre-sale customer guaranteed. No doubt the risk will pay off for both companies and expand the customer base for both.
